Numerous books have been published, and seminars organised, to prepare people to take a wide range of tests. When it comes to knowledge tests, the approach is quite understandable. On the other hand, when it comes to personality tests, avoiding the pitfalls of a well-constructed approach can be counter-productive because of a lack of authenticity in the assessment, and can be a reason for rejecting an application. Furthermore, if the person gets the job after presenting an image that differs from reality, they will be faced with the difficulties inherent in their unsuitability for the position. The resulting discomfort will penalise the person more than the company.
